To a bee a flower is the fountain of life, and to the flower the bee is Messenger of love

The poet Kahlil Gibran beautifully described this symbiotic relationship.

BeeTotems For RefuBees gives bee species a refuge in the cities. BeeTotems are circular, living art objects, filled with flowers, plants and worms. This makes them top restaurants and in combination with tailored hotels for bees it contributes to the preservation of the local ecosystem. In the Netherlands we have 358 different wild bee species and one species of honeybee. Diversity and knowledge on bees are complex and more than half of the wild bees are on the red list of extinction. Each totem is dedicated to a different wild bee with its own plant preferences. BeeTotems For RefuBees is an interdisciplinary art project that combines sociological, ecological and educational elements. When residents adopt a BeeTotem, they collectively contribute to counteract the loss of biodiversity. BeeTotems are located in public space on street corners and squares and hosted by people who live close-by and signed a Bee-covenant. The covenant entails that the hosts are feeding the worms, water the plants and take a photo once a month for social media.
